Prior to May 6, 1954, it was widely accepted that the human body couldn’t endure running a mile in under 4-minutes. 

But on May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile with a time of 3:59. It was broken again by another runner 46 days later. Since then over 1,400 athletes world-wide have broken the 4-minute mile and it’s now considered a standard for middle-distance runners. 

How did that happen? Someone had to do it and others had to see it could be done to accept in their mind that it was not only possible, it was attainable.
